What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in a big city?
Sample answer:
Living in a big city offers numerous benefits. One of the key advantages is the availability of amenities. In metropolitan areas, you can find everything from high-end shopping malls to world-class medical facilities. The sheer concentration of businesses and industries also means that job opportunities are abundant, making it easier for people to find work across various sectors. Moreover, big cities tend to have better public transportation systems, which makes commuting relatively easier compared to smaller towns or rural areas.
However, living in a big city can also have some drawbacks. One significant disadvantage is the high cost of living, especially in terms of housing and daily expenses. Rent prices in major cities are often exorbitant, forcing many people to live in smaller, more crowded apartments. Another downside is the noise pollution—with constant traffic, construction, and the hustle and bustle of daily life, it can be overwhelming at times. Additionally, big cities often face issues such as traffic congestion and air pollution, which can lead to health problems for residents.
Do you think cities will become more environmentally friendly in the future?
Sample answer:
Yes, I believe cities will increasingly focus on becoming more environmentally sustainable in the future. As urban populations continue to grow, there is a rising demand for green infrastructure. Many cities around the world are already implementing measures such as solar-powered buildings, eco-friendly public transport, and waste recycling programs. These initiatives help reduce the environmental impact of urban life while improving the quality of life for residents.
Moreover, with the advancement of green technology, cities will be able to optimize energy usage, decrease their carbon footprint, and enhance air quality. For example, vertical gardens and green roofs are becoming more common in cities, allowing people to grow food while improving air quality. As awareness of climate change grows, I believe urban planning will shift toward creating smart cities that utilize renewable energy sources and smart grids to ensure sustainability.
How do you think city life will change in the next 50 years?
Sample answer:
City life in the next 50 years will likely undergo dramatic changes, especially with the rise of technology and sustainability initiatives. I anticipate that cities will become smarter as artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies are integrated into daily life. For example, self-driving cars and drone delivery services may become commonplace, reducing traffic congestion and improving transportation efficiency.
Furthermore, urban areas will likely embrace greener initiatives, focusing on sustainable living. This includes more green buildings, energy-efficient homes, and city-wide initiatives aimed at reducing waste and lowering carbon emissions. Vertical farming could become a standard practice, allowing cities to grow their own food locally and reduce their dependency on agriculture in rural areas.
In terms of social dynamics, the digital transformation might change the way people live and work. The rise of remote working could reduce the need for daily commuting, allowing for more flexible lifestyles and reducing the pressure on urban infrastructure.

Bài Mẫu IELTS Speaking City Life Part 2
Describe a city you would like to live in the future(Mô tả một thành phố mà bạn muốn sống trong tương lai)
You should say:
What city it is
Where it is located
What it is famous for
And explain why you would like to live there
Sample answer (Band 9.0):
If I had the opportunity to choose a city to settle down in the future, it would undoubtedly be Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. Situated in Northern Europe, this city is renowned for its exceptional quality of life, eco-friendly urban planning, and progressive social policies.
One of the most fascinating aspects of Copenhagen is its commitment to sustainability. The city boasts an efficient cycling infrastructure, and nearly half of its residents commute by bike, which significantly reduces traffic congestion and air pollution. Additionally, Copenhagen has ambitious goals to become the world’s first carbon-neutral capital by 2025, which aligns perfectly with my passion for environmental conservation.
Another reason I’m drawn to this city is its work-life balance. Unlike many metropolises where people are caught up in the hustle and bustle, Copenhagen offers a more relaxed lifestyle with shorter working hours, generous parental leave policies, and an overall emphasis on well-being. The city also has a vibrant cultural scene, with numerous art galleries, music festivals, and Michelin-starred restaurants to explore.
Most importantly, the people in Copenhagen are known for their hygge lifestyle, a Danish concept that revolves around coziness, contentment, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. I believe that living in such an environment would not only provide me with career opportunities but also contribute to my overall happiness and well-being.
For these reasons, I dream of making Copenhagen my future home. It perfectly balances modern innovation with environmental consciousness and a high quality of life.
